Amea is an artistic adventure game following the surreal experience of the eponymous character. This RPG features beautiful graphics, outstanding voice acting, and an intriguing storyline.
Amea is a role-playing game that places you right into the action, with little initial explanation. After the game has finished loading, press the spacebar to begin. The arrow keys are used to move your character. The first few screen serve as opening credits and as an opportunity to practice movement. Keep running to the right until you reach a tree with dead bodies strewn about. You will wake up in a house with a strange man. A cutscene will explain some of the backstory. After this, you will be reminded of the basic controls.
Move to the right and pick up the sword by using the shift key. Make sure to assign a keystroke to the sword by opening the menu (pressing the spacebar), clicking the sword in your inventory, and pressing either the A, S, or D key. Press the spacebar again to exit the menu, and prepare for your first fight. Tap the key that you assigned to the short sword, and kill the zombie. Once the zombie is dead, leave the house.
This adventure game does not tell you what to do next, so go out and explore! The more that you explore, the more quests you will uncover and the more that you will learn. Be sure to use your map by opening the menu, and pressing the left or right arrow keys until you access the map screen. Press the I key to access the quest logs once you are put on a quest. Although there is no solid directive, I will guide you on one quest. Keep running to the right until a voice calls out. This will put you on the Forest Enigma quest.
Keep heading right, fighting zombies as you go until you reach a sign with a skull and crossbones on it. Enter this door. Head to the right and enter the first door that you encounter. From here, go to the left until you reach a chest. Open the chest and you will find a key. You have to get to the other side of that statue to use the key on it. Retrace your steps and enter doorways until you find a screen with three ascending ramps. Climb to the top and head right until you get back to the statue. Use the key on the statue. This will reward you with a superior weapon. Backtrace your steps until you find a doorway with two torches adjacent to it. Enter this doorway.
The mysterious voice will taunt you again, but remain diligent. Head to the right and you will find a locked gate. Looks like we'll have to find another key. I scoured all accessible areas, but still couldn't find the key. Keep exploring, and maybe you will find it! Whew, that was a lot to do just for the beginning of one quest! Luckily, the game is automatically saved, so you can continue from where you left off the next time that you play, you will just have to re-equip all of your items!
Amea is a great adventure game that doesn't give away the entire story at the beginning, creating an air of intrigue the pulls you into the game. Unfortunately, this lack of direction coupled with maps that are not very useful and the severe lack of illumination can make this role-playing game frustrating.
